Training and Support

Induction

All volunteers have an induction. This will show you:

  • How Oblong does what it does
  • How Oblong is organised
  • The importance of our policies and the work we do
  • What you can expect from us
  • A how-to session on using the equipment

Training

As a part of our support, we provide access to training which will be useful to our volunteers and the work they undertake for us. This may be on a one-to-one basis, through another organisation who have come to give in-house training at Oblong, or at an external location. You can request training at any time and opportunities can be identified through discussion between you and the volunteer co-ordinator. For any information on training through Oblong, you can ask a member of staff.

Volunteer Feedback Support & Monitoring

Role of Supervisor
As a volunteer at Oblong you will have a clearly identified supervisor who will be responsible for providing guidance and assistance to you.

Lines of Communication
As a Volunteer you are entitled to all necessary information that may relate to your performance in your role. You will be included in all relevant mailouts by Oblong. We intend that all relevant up to date information, including legal information, will be made available you.

Volunteers Records
Your supervisor will keep all records relating to your volunteering in a personnel file. Volunteer personnel files will be confidential and will kept in a secure, locked storage. Only authorised staff will have access to volunteer personnel files. A volunteer may have access to their file at any time.

Feedback Sessions
We would like you to attend regular feedback sessions with your supervisor. The regularity of feedback sessions will depend on your level of need but will be held ideally 6 times a year. Feedback sessions will include a review of progress and will identify any training and development needs. Sessions will be recorded, using the Feedback Session pro-forma, and kept in your confidential personnel file.

As a volunteer you can request an additional feedback session, details of how to do so are outlined in the Volunteer Handbook

Informal Support
Volunteers are encouraged to provide each other with peer support.
