Get involved

Oblong is a lively and sociable organisation with a passion for making life better in the community. We see the Woodhouse Community Centre as a place to learn skills, be inspired and to take part. The newly refurbished centre will be opening towards the end of the year and it belongs to everyone.

Help us run the Community Centre

Offering a warm welcome to visitors, volunteers and the centre users is a valuable and rewarding responsibility. Reception and centre support volunteers will be trained in people skills, health and safety, and administrative skills.

Help us with our IT

Keeping the IT systems up and running and helping centre users is a vital contribution. IT requires specialist skills which you can learn on the job and will give you a boost in confidence and employability.

Change the future of Oblong

Join the development Collective to help us create new projects and find funding for work.

Connecting the community

Oblong has a thriving and well equipped Media Collective.

Be a filmmaker - The video team includes camera operators, sound recordists, interviewers, editors and organisers.

Be a designer - Get experience designing posters, flyers and websites. You will help Oblong and other local organisations raise their profile and publicise events.

Be a broadcaster - Oblong plans to launch its own internet radio station. You can be a part of the team learning new skills including interviewing techniques, script writing and audio production.

We are currently looking for volunteers with web creation and print design skills. If you would like to become involved please email markw@oblongleeds.org.uk

Improve your local environment

Being involved at the community centre is not just about the building. The Gardening Collective turn ugly and neglected patches of green space into beautiful places for everyone. If you can use a spade, you can join.

Why 'collectives'?

We call these groups collectives because all paid staff and volunteers work collectively in them - we make decisions and do the work together,
